Walking the Camino Santiago, may 2010
"Walking the Camino Santiago, Spain, may 2010
1 What is Camino?
2 How to do it?
3 my impressions
1 What is Camino?
Santiago Camino is an ancient pilgrimage road network 1000 years in Spain (tracks) leading into the city (Galician) province of Santiago de Compostela. Here in the great cathedral keeps the remains of the Apostle Saint James. Santiago, close to the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal.
The most popular is called Camino Frances trails, leading to Santiago from the French side of the Pyrenees. This trail is approximately 760 km 33 days to walk. Winds through part of Spain and not visited by tourists, save perhaps barely a week holiday in Pamplona (running the Bulls).
Walking the Camino becomes increasingly popular. Some solace for many more satisfaction spiritual or material challenge. In any event, it passes through the hauntingly beautiful landscape, largely mountainous old cities, villages and ancient forests, green fields and vineyards.
The trail is open year-round PDF (wise) time to do it between April and November. In my opinion at this time there might be hikers at least 300 days each, meaning close to 10,000 pilgrims along the path of totality.
Walk trails social thing. You won't be alone eventually, a large number of international participants are most impressive.
All types of accommodation are available along the route, from dorm style run by the Catholic Church, municipalities and individuals for b & BS, inns, etc for those who prefer more privacy.
There is a need for any reservations, accommodation cost less quickly filled, but volunteers will make sure everyone finds a place to sleep.
Along the course there are also stores cafe bars and restaurants where one eat and drink in a very reasonable price not much food needs to be side by side in your backpack.
2 How to do it?
There are sites that describes what you want to know, a list of items that you need to get together, reducing the weight of your backpack is important. Book good/trail map with route sections describe Highland appear alongside fluctuations to date accommodation is also useful.
Many walk the Camino alone, eventually you'll have many opportunities to strike up a conversation and socialize with fellow pilgrims with a bottle of wine or beer.
Pilgrims are "Passport" at the points of departure. In all, another notable stops to obtain passport stamped, proving you "pilgrims" allowing you to get preference in the acceptance of dorms inexpensive. In the end you will get a certificate of proof of completion in Santiago.
Camino is going to be one of your flights cheaper. Your everyday spending will top Euro 30 to celebrate the day! This includes costs of dorm in 5-10 euros a night, dinner pilgrims widely available in restaurants usually 9 euros, while the rest of your expenses lunch/coffee/beer/wine alongside Internet usage (widely available).
The majority of participants walk length. But as time out there who just walk from partition, saying that they are walking in a week instead of walking at the end of five weeks required to complete the whole Camino.
Then there is the potential for walking with no package. This great feature ... But you'll have to sign up with a stroll (usually they do selected sections only) and pay accordingly. Instead, smaller groups has seen cars; all day is set to move the car ahead while others walk.
You can also do the Camino in mountain bike (or even on horseback) mainly in group or tour operator.
3 my impressions
I walked the Camino with retired former colleague of mine. Len 4 years younger walked most of the trail for six years. Still works, but skrongid courage and requested leave from 26 April to 28 may, giving me the 32 days of thinking this would be a lot. But you have to do everything even more time.
To get to the point of departure from Canada and then back home from a finally eat up to 6 days. We had a rest day in Burgos Santiago and another day before flying to Madrid. There are 33 days recommended walking full ... "
